Reseach and planning 1
Relevant theory's related to magazine production?(audiences)
Audience: niche vs. Mainstream
For a magazine to work and be successful( to be able to make a profit), the publisher has to be clear on there target audience(like a specialise audience like for a hobbies magazine like horse and hound).However some magazines have a wider niche(like a woman's magazine like woman's weekly)
However they are full with advantages and disadvantages as there are many gaps within the market so therefore you must be shore that your magazine has been or is being marketed properly if not they may not know if the magazine even exists
Profiling and segmentation
-Demographics
Is the age, class, gender,marital status etc of a person
-Psychographic
Is the vaules, attiudes as well as the life style they live.
they can be fitted in to five groups
Yuppie= young, upwardly-moblie professional
Dinkie = dual income, no kids
Woopie= well off old people
Yaks = young, adventurous, keen and single
Bats = Babies add sparkle
-lifestyles sudsets
are the types of group we fit in to like skaters, goths, emos, students
-Mainstreamers
go with the flow and don't want to stand out
-Succeeders
have more money than the aspirers but wouldnt feel like they have to show off as much
-Aspirers
would like to have more money or status so will buy 'flashy' products to give a message aout about there status
-Reformers
would like to save the world
-Individuals
they want to show the world that they are different
relevant theory related to magazine production (institutions)
The industry is constable changing with the technology. More and more magazine have been setting up websites and going online,so therefor more people are disregarding the paper copy's and hopping online to look at there favourite magazines.Even tho more company's are going online readership is still healthy.Over the year many company's in there 1st year or later on in the magazine life have been going 'bust' some times because they have run out of money or just because they can been brought out(by a company like Bauer), who is a larger Walther company.
Even tho the technology is changing the magazine intrusty is still in full bloom due to the glossy pictures,with masses of information, at are finger tips.
The print format of readership(selling copy's)with advertising space makes a link between the audience consumption of what the market things we need makes us the gender we are( eg girls wear make up boy drive poss car)

Relevant theory related to magazine production (representation)
- Mainstream magazines
These magazines are more likely to rely heavily on to stereotypical representation of there audience as they try and cover a wide group of people.
- Niche magazines
These magazines target on there representation of certain issues e.g: fashion, which would suit the taste as well as interests of there audience, like if they are join on to a club.
- Magazines tries to entrain and appeal to there audience, once the magazine has done this they have represented there readers in a positive way.
Relevant theory related to magazine production(media language)
The Media languages doesn't just stop at journalism , bur goes in to house styles this includes the graphics, and colour schemes, and lay out you use, as well as the choice of atrial you use and how it is layed out. All these parts makes the style of a magazine which helps to link the magazine to the audience. It must have a clear and distinct style, which the audience can recognise from the front cover what kind of magazine it is. if it doesn't have this clear communication which can be identified if not on one will buy it.

How the responses for the college magazine questionnaire influenced my design
Most of my topics and regulars i have included in my magazine have been based rounded what the respondents said in my questionnaire. This helped me see what people really wanted in there magazine.
* I have used the college logo colours which had the highest suggestion out of all the colours. Therefore it was designed for a multi sex readership.
* I have used the price that i found by my researchers of being the most common as it could be given out in the college.
* I have covered a few topics that was suggested by my responses. As i couldn't choose all of them as some of them i didn't think relevant for my target audiences.
* I used the college logo because many of my students found it operate, to have it as it represent the college, as the college logo is the identity of where each student gose.
* I also asked my resonses about the magazine they normal read or buy, as this helped me take in to consider what other topics of subjects i could inclued eg i inclued the college rugby score for the sports fans and the gossip from the college party for all the heat readers.
