Audience: niche vs. Mainstream
For a magazine to work and be successful( to be able to make a profit), the publisher has to be clear on there target audience(like a specialise audience like for a hobbies magazine like horse and hound). However some magazines have a wider niche(like a woman's magazine like woman's weekly)
However they are full with advantages and disadvantages as there are many gaps within the market so therefore you must be shore that your magazine has been or is being marketed properly if not they may not know if the magazine even exists

relevant theory related to magazine production (institutions)
The industry is constable changing with the technology. More and more magazine have been setting up websites and going online,so therefor more people are disregarding the paper copy's and hopping online to look at there favourite magazines.Even tho more company's are going online readership is still healthy.Over the year many company's in there 1st year or later on in the magazine life have been going 'bust' some times because they have run out of money or just because they can been brought out(by a company like Bauer), who is a larger Walther company.
Even tho the technology is changing the magazine intrusty is still in full bloom due to the glossy pictures, with masses of information, at are finger tips.
The print format of readership(selling copy's)with advertising space makes a link between the audience consumption of what the market things we need makes us the gender we are( eg girls wear make up boy drive poss car)
Relevant theory related to magazine production (representation)
- Mainstream magazines
These magazines are more likely to rely heavily on to stereotypical representation of there audience as they try and cover a wide group of people.
- Niche magazines
These magazines target on there representation of certain issues e.g: fashion, which would suit the taste as well as interests of there audience, like if they are join on to a club.
- Magazines tries to entrain and appeal to there audience, once the magazine has done this they have represented there readers in a positive way.
Relevant theory related to magazine production(media language)
The Media languages doesn't just stop at journalism , bur goes in to house styles this includes the graphics, and colour schemes, and lay out you use, as well as the choice of atrial you use and how it is layed out. All these parts makes the style of a magazine which helps to link the magazine to the audience. It must have a clear and distinct style, which the audience can recognise from the front cover what kind of magazine it is. if it doesn't have this clear communication which can be identified if not on one will buy it.
